Cinematic Inspiration – The/My Creative Process

When inspiration hits, your mind starts racing. You think, Oh, here’s something here we could do. Could this be a film project? What could we do? How do we do it? We’ve got to do it. What becomes the imagery? THe theme?

Sooner, rather than later, you have the whole idea of what it wants to look like, in your head. That all takes about 45 seconds.

But then you think about it more. Then you think, well, maybe it can be an article? I should send it to so and so. Or I shouldn’t do this. Maybe it’s not a film after all, much as I thought. But then the film ideas are still rummaging around in your head.

And then, before you know it, you’ve given yourself doubts. Who would want to see it? Yada, yada, yada. So you start doing your research, has this subject been done before? Has this been profiled?

You look it up. And before you know it, looking things up to see who’s there, what’s going on, what’s happening? Has somebody done this before? Yes.

Have they done it the way you wanted to do it? No.

Is this person well attached and they already have agents, managers? Yes, they do. Oh, well that sucks. That’s going to be a pain in the butt to deal with.

So you keep processing it. And before you know it, the enthusiasm has suddenly subdued, but you still have this idea. Still this thing, thought, in the back of your head that yes, there’s something there that should be pursued. So do we pursue it? How do we pursue it?

Then it becomes more manageable. Then you think calmly and quietly and it gives you a chance to refocus on the idea at hand, what you’re going to do. And before you know it, the idea of the project takes solid foot and you just have to see where it goes.

Was that post a discombobulated read? Well that’s sort of what the creative process can be like.
